RMC Plant / Concrete Batch Plants
Hi there, Welcome to "The Civil Engineer",
Concrete Batching plants are the lifeline of RMC (Ready Mix Concrete) in today's modern Construction Industry. It is a kind of mixing plant in which the Cement, Sand, and Aggregate are mixed together to form the Concrete of the required grade. Then from the Concrete batching plant, the prepared concrete is transported to the Project Site with the help of a Transit Concrete Mixer. RMCs are usually used in high-volume concrete since concrete batching plants can produce enormous volumes of concrete in less amount of time with good quality.
What are the Components of a Batching Plant?
RMC Plant / Concrete Batch Plant |
The Batching plant consists of the following Components,
- Aggregate & Sand Feeder - It has numerous bins through which the aggregates are loaded( In the picture you can see it on the Left side of the picture)
- Groove Type Conveyor Belt - This Belt loads the Aggregate and sand into the Aggregate and Sand Weighing Machine.
- Silos - This is where all the cement that were going to be used is stored.
- Screw Conveyor - This conveyor transfers the cement from the Silos to the weighing unit.
- Weighing unit - This unit weighs all the required ingredients including water from a water tank that is placed near the unit.
- Mixer unit - Mixes all the ingredients.
- Control unit - This is where the operator controls all the operations of the Batching plant
How it Works?
When the operator starts the concrete batch plant, It all starts with the loading process with the aggregate, and the sand that is required is fed into the Aggregate & sand feeder. From the feeder, the aggregate and the sand were transported into the weighing unit through the groove-type conveyor belt. At the same time, the cement in the silos gets transferred into the weighing unit based on the grade of concrete that is required. After weighting the required amount of quantity the weighing pour the required amount of ingredients along with the water (If Required) and adhesive if required to the mixer unit. Then, it is loaded into the Transit Mixer machines and poured into the project site at the required places.
Types of Concrete Batch Plant
The RMC / Concrete batching plant is classified based on the following,
- Based on Mix
- Based on the Location of the Batching plant
Based on Mix
Transit Mix Plant / Dry Concrete Batching Plant
In this type of plant, all the ingredients will be loaded in the transit mixer in a dry manner without water. Water is added while transporting or at the site before delivery.
Central Mix Plant / Wet Concrete Batching Plant
Here, all the ingredients along with water get mixed in the batching plant itself and loaded in the agitator truck i.e. transit mixer truck.
Based on the Location of the Batching Plant
Stationary Concrete Batching plant
As the name suggests these are batching plants that are located at a distance from the construction/ Project site. They are permanently fixed and the batched concrete is transported to the construction site by using an agitator/transit mixer machine truck.
Mobile Batching concrete
When the distance of the batching plant is greater it leads to increased cost of the project. In such a case, simple small batching plants were set up that are easy to assemble near the project site or in the Project site itself. Mobile batching plants are very popular nowadays. However, they are less efficient and have less batching capacity than stationary concrete batching plants.
Choose the suitable batching plant and transportation and type of mix (Wet or Dry) for your construction project.
