Scaffolding and its types
Hi there, Welcome to "The Civil Engineer", In this article we are going to explain n you what is a scaffolding and its types along with its use and where it is suited in the construction process.
Scaffolding is the temporary structure that is used by the workforce in the construction industry for the r construction of structures/buildings at height. Like the construction of wall painting and repairing works. Even though they are temporary in nature without these temporary structures we can't able to finish the real structure. So they are as important as the Real structure types of scaffolding available in the market that are used for specific purposes. Choosing the best scaffolding will enhance the safety and better workability of the workforce in the construction Industry. The Various types of scaffolding are as follows
- Single Scaffolding
- Double Scaffolding
- Cantilever Scaffolding`
- Suspended Scaffolding
- Trestle scaffolding
- Steel Scaffolding
- Patented Scaffolding
- Wooden and Bamboo Scaffolding
- Tube and Clamp Scaffolding
- Kwikstage Scaffolding
Before moving further let me explain n you the parts of a scaffolding so that you will have a better understanding of how they will be,
Construction Scaffolding |
1. Single Scaffolding
These are the scaffolding that was used for the construction of the New Brick wall and plastering purposes. Here one side of the scaffolding is supported by the wall and the other end by standards. This can be done by making holes in the wall and inserting the putlogintoto the wall in such a way the putlogs will be like a cantilever beam projectinoutur of the wall. Now all the Putlogs are connected with the help of the Ledgers & Standards. The Distance between Standards will be in the range of 2 to 2. meters and the vertical distance between the standards will be 1.2 to 1. meter. The Distance between the putlogs were 1.2 to 1.5 meter.
2. Double Scaffolding
e Double Scaffolding is the same as that oe Single Scaffolding, but the only difference is that both sides are supported by Standardswhereasas the case of single scaffolding one side is supported wall. The First layer of standards is 20 to 30 cm away from the wall and the next layer of standards is 1m away from the standards near the wall. The Remaining were the l same as the single scaffolding.
3. Cantilever Scaffolding
The Standards of the scaffolding were supported or placed above a series of needles that were taken out from the floor below. Cantilever scaffolding was mostly used for the construction of Brick/Block work above the existing floor where the space is very congested to execute using normal scaffolding from the ground level. Care should be taken when preparing a cantilever scaffold because it is very risky if the support is not properly executed.
4. Suspended Scaffolding
The Scaffoldinwasre is mainly used for painting. The platform where the workers stand is suspended from roofs with the help of wire ropes or chains and may be moved up or down based on the requirement. Because of their moveable nature, they are extensively used for works that are light in nature but with greater area to cover. For example, le Painting, Small Repair wor, ks, etc.,
5. Trestle Scaffolding
These scaffolding are very useful if the floor area is very vast without any blockade like warehouses, or complex construction or if you are constructing buildings with big openings and rooms. Here the platform placed above the Standards, Ledge, rs, and Putlog was fixed to the o wheel. To describe you better think the chair is attached to wheels. It is easy to move and use. The same goes for Trestle scaffolding.
6. Steel Scaffolding
These scaffolding are the safest of all scaffolding because they are stable and stronger than any other type of scaffolding. These were made of steel tubes that are fixed together with the help of steel couplers and fittings They have a very high durability and lifespan than other types of scaffolding.
7. Patented Scaffolding
These were also a type of steel scaffolding but they are already fitted with special couplings and fittings. But they are already permanently fitted and only the platform can be moved to the desired height other items such as the Standard, Ledge, rs, and putlogs all were fixed.
8. Wooden and Bamboo Scaffolding
Types of scaffolding were extensively used in Asia. Instead of steel standards, Ledge, rs, and putlogs all were made of wood mostly bamboo. They are more economical if they are easily available, but their lifespan & strength are much less when compared to steel scaffolding.
9. Tube and Clamp Scaffolding
These were scaffolding teaware made of steel or aluminum tubes connected together with the help of right-angle clamps or couplers. Transverse Supporwasre also provided with the help of tubes diagonally to improve stability.
1 0.Kwikstage Scaffolding
This type of scaffold is called Fasten scaffolding because it has brackets at the joints where there is no need for couplers. So when the scaffolding needs to be altered it can be done with less movement than normal scaffolding and more time can be saved in the project.
Scaffolding plays a major role in the construction industry without raising the Scaffolding we can't able to raise the Building structure economically in most of the cases of construction. Choosing the appropriate and right scaffold g a must.
